- How long does it take to complete a course series?
There are 30 lessons. Which means, kids can take one lesson a week throughout the school year and still take breaks for holidays.
- Are there set times that the students must log on to take the course?
Nope. Students have the freedom to go online and log into their course whenever it's most convenient for them. For example, some students take their courses after school one day a week, others choose to take their lesson on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Alternatively, some students binge-watch their lessons during fall, winter, and spring breaks.
- What are the Standards of Learning that the U.S. History curriculum is based on?
The Standards of Learning (SOL) describe the expectations given by the United States for student learning and achievement in grades K-12 in American history. The SOL provides the curriculum framework that teachers are expected to teach to as well as the specific knowledge and skills that their students are expected to learn. Those who successfully complete U.S. History Worldwide's series of courses will be able to show proficiency and meet U.S. standards.
- Is there any interaction between students and teachers?
It's minimal, but there are times when I message students via the course messaging system or through email.
- What books are used as part of the U.S. History Worldwide course series?
We are trying something NEW this year! Instead of sending out books, students will be able to listen to stories that are woven inside the courses. - Will the student be given a final grade?
Since the U.S. History Worldwide course series is considered supplemental coursework for students, no official grades will be given.
- What are the system requirements?
All you need is a computer/iPad with reliable Internet connection and possibly a VPN (depending on your location). - Who qualifies for tuition reimbursement?
Currently, employees posted abroad who work for the US State Department, US AID, LEGAT, etc..., OR employees with select privately held companies are eligible for tuition reimbursement for their children during the regular school year. You can read the regulations for DSSR 276.9(a) Supplemental Instruction by clicking this link, and you can read the FAQ's provided by the Office of Allowances here, and here is the guidance put out by the Office of Allowances and the Office of Overseas Schools. - How does tuition reimbursement work?
Upon registering your child(ren) for a course, I'll email you an auto-generated receipt and template that you can quickly fill out and forward to your post’s Financial Management Office (if you are State Department) or to your company’s HR department and they will reimburse you in about 2-3 weeks time. Click here to view the sample letter. - Are courses available during the summer months?
Yes! Completing courses during the summer months is a great option for kids who are too busy during the regular school year. However, tuition reimbursement through the State Department is provided under limited circumstances and the employee must provide information on why the child could not use the supplementary instruction during the regular school year. Please direct requests for authorization to the Director of the Office of Allowances at [email protected] - What is the policy for refunds? We offer a 100% reimbursement guarantee in case your reimbursement request is denied. If this happens, please let us know and share the denial within 90 days after purchase, and we'll refund your purchase in full. However, if you didn't submit for reimbursement from your employer, the following refund policy will apply:
- Through the first week of classes, tuition will be refunded at 100%, less a $50 processing fee for students withdrawal.
- The second week of classes tuition will be refunded at 75%, less a $50 processing fee for students withdrawal.
- The third week of classes tuition will be refunded at 50%, less a $50 processing fee for students withdrawal.
- The fourth week of classes tuition will be refunded at 25%, less a $50 processing fee for students withdrawal.
- Beginning with the fifth week of classes, refunds will not be considered
